Frequently Asked Questions
More expensive wetsuits will generally use higher‑grade neoprene (often limestone‑based or premium foams), which is softer, stretchier and warmer for the same thickness, whilst cheaper suits use stiffer, lower‑density materials that feel more restrictive.
Premium suits tend to have better panel design, glued‑and‑blind‑stitched or taped seams, quality zips and linings, all of which improve comfort, durability and warmth over several seasons. BOLDE sits firmly in the “premium” category, using Japanese limestone-based neoprene and women‑specific patterns designed for flexibility, longevity and a flattering fit, rather than the boxy, unisex cuts which are common in cheaper wetsuits.
A steamer (full suit/wetsuit) covers arms and legs and is designed for cooler waters. A springsuit (shorty wetsuit) is usually short‑leg or short‑arm for warmer conditions, and a wetsuit jacket (wetsuit top) gives core warmth and sun protection when you don’t need full‑body coverage.
For tropical snorkelling where the water is warmer, a 2mm springsuit or 2mm wetsuit jacket is perfect for taking the edge off the wind-chill. For cooler waters or for those who feel the cold, a 2mm short leg springsuit or a 3mm steamer will keep you more comfortable while still allowing good mobility.
Recommended wetsuit thickness is
measured in millimetres, and your choice depends entirely on the water
temperature and your sensitivity to cold.
20°C – 26°C | Warm Water
Ideal Choice: BOLDE 2mm Wetsuit Jacket
- Why it works: Perfect for taking the
chill off during warm-weather snorkelling. It provides core warmth, a
glideskin neck to minimise water entry, and 50+ UPF sun protection, all
while leaving your lower half completely unrestricted.
18°C – 25°C | Mild Water
Ideal Choice: BOLDE 2mm springsuit
- Why it works: The 2mm all-over thickness
provides excellent full-torso coverage. It keeps your core insulated
against mild water temps and coastal winds without the added bulk of a
full steamer.
13°C – 18°C | Cool Water
Ideal Choice: BOLDE 3mm steamer
- Why it works: When the water drops, full
coverage is essential. The 3mm Steamer features triple-glued,
blind-stitched, and taped seams to strictly minimise water entry. The
consistent 3mm thickness traps body heat from your wrists to your ankles,
making it perfect for extended dive sessions.
Cold Water & Deep Dives
Ideal Choice: BOLDE 5mm Steamer
- Why it works: Designed specifically for
serious cold water adventures. It uses compression-resistant limestone
rubber to ensure you stay warmer for longer, even at deeper depths where
standard neoprene compresses and loses its insulating properties.
There’s no single “best” snorkel, but higher‑quality options tend to use soft mouthpieces, efficient drainage (purge valves) and some form of splash‑guard or dry‑top to keep water out in choppy ocean conditions.
For most snorkellers, especially beginners and reef swimmers, a dry‑top snorkel is usually easiest because it greatly reduces the amount of water that can enter when waves splash over the tube. BOLDE’s snorkels are built around this style, pairing soft silicone mouthpieces with dry‑snorkel technology or compact designs, together with a range of eye-catching colours to choose from. This makes BOLDE's mask and snorkel sets a strong option for dive and snorkelling adventures around the world.
No, our BOLDE snorkels utilise innovative Dry Snorkel Technology. They feature a duck cover that seals the tube to prevent water entry when you submerge, along with a convenient purge valve at the bottom to
easily expel any stray drops.
Yes. The BOLDE Double Lens Soft Silicone Mask is fully compatible with prescription lenses. This allows you to explore the
underwater world with ultimate clarity without the hassle of wearing contacts
under a standard mask.
We recommend using baby shampoo on the inside of tempered glass, avoiding the silicone. Rub across the glass and leave for several minutes while you prepare for your dive or snorkel. Give the mask a good rinse in cool water and you are ready to go.
To maintain the integrity of the mask, we recommend a gentle freshwater rinse after every use and storing the mask away from heat and direct sunlight.
